NEW RELEASES |
You will be able to find here news about the latest Volvo scale models which have been announced or just been released. |
The all-new Volvo V40 is available as scale model in Japan. This model is an official merchandise product from Volvo. The small scale model is made of plastic and measures 5,5 cm long, 2,2 cm width and 2cm high. This means that the model is slightly larger than a H0 ( 1:87 ) model. A Volvo employee saw them in Japan and bought only three to bring them over to Europe. I don't know why Volvo isn't offering those models in the rest of the world. Please let us know if you have any infos regarding this new scale model. Thank you BJ for allowing me to take those pics.

I found today in my mailbox a publication called 'MY VOLVO Magazine' which Volvo is mailing in Luxembourg and Belgium for free to their customers. This magazine is published by Volvo Car Belux, Gent (B). This edition for summer 2014 features a double sided article on page 30 and 31 explaining Lennart Ekdahl's job. Lennart is from Sweden and he works for Volvo where he is in charge of every official Volvo scale model. Every newly released Vovlo scale model passes trough his hands. And they are only manufactured if Lennart has accepted and approved the pre-production model which every manufacturer has to send to him. This article is in French and gives mostly explanations about the way Lennart is contributing to get quality scale models from the various producers around the world. There are also a few lines dealing with the latest concept cars which Volvo is also offering as scale models. You might prefer reading this English article which appeared some time ago in one of Volvo's official blogs : wedesignvolvo.tumblr.com/.... That article is older but explains very much the same content. Here is a short quote explaining the idea behind Volvo's blog We Design Volvo : About :

The three scale models shown on these photos are the versions made out of resin. The diecast versions will be slightly different in quality and level of details.

Source & copyright : collection.volvocars.com A new baseplate and those white window cardboard boxes on your left are the reason why Volvo's web-shop is offering their new 1:87 scale models at a price three times more expensive than the regular retail price. These are in fact the same models Herpa is offering for 10.50 €. Volvo is in fact asking 38.70 € for one model. It's up to you to decide whether those little white boxes are worth the 28 € or not. And no ... it's not April 1st yet. Volvo's merchandising department is offering two new 1:87 scale models. This is indeed a surprise to see that Volvo is now also offering H0 models in their web-shop. They are starting with the Volvo P1800 in light blue and the Volvo P1800 ES in gold metallic. Both models are fixed on a black plastic base. Herpa, and not Norev as I initially wrote, is producing these plastic scale models. I do not know who had the fabulous idea to take regular Herpa models and to sell them for three times the regular retail price. They take us for a bunch of idiots.
!!! Please do not buy these models from Volvo's web-shop. They are way too expensive !!! Sources & copyright :
